Artist Statement
My work is a culmination of experiences I have personally gone through. Whether that experience is directly depicted or abstracted, each piece in my body of work references a specific situation, memory, or emotion I have experienced. Common ideas such as identity, body image, mental illness, and trauma are prevalent in my work. I use art to explore my memories, triggering specific feelings within myself. I want the viewer to be able to feel whatever emotion I was feeling when making the piece. I use many different media, usually a mixture of printmaking, painting, drawing, and photography. My primary medium being printmaking, I enjoy processes like intaglio and screen printing. Color is usually an important part of my work which makes screen printing a really fun process for me. I enjoy intaglio printing processes as well because of the set of rules needed to create an ideal print. Drypoint and etching are specifically my favorite because of the ability to capture the tiniest details. It requires the viewer to examine the print very close which offers a different kind of intimacy between the viewer and the artwork itself.
