Artist Bio

Every piece of art Sophia Gilbertson makes is an exploration of herself. Common themes such as challenging societal norms, body dysmorphia, self esteem, memory, and mental health/trauma awareness are apparent in her work. Influenced by the women in her life, her target audience is women who have gone through similar struggles. Gilbertson has worked with many different media such as painting (both oil and acrylic), acrylic inks, printmaking, drawing, and photography. Primarily focused on printmaking, Gilbertson enjoys traditional printing processes like intaglio. Screen printing is something she also enjoys, since color is prominent in the majority of her work. Screen printing offers great layering information that Gilbertson utilizes. Her work is a way of self justification and her goal is to understand herself and her role in society.
